About This Event / イベントについて
Tenjin Matsuri, held July 24–25 at Osaka Tenmangu Shrine, is Osaka's largest festival and one of Japan's top three. The finale on July 25 is spectacular: a land procession of shrine mikoshi and costumed attendants gives way to the funatogyo — a river procession of more than 100 boats rowing down the Okawa River.
As dusk falls, approximately 3,000 fireworks are launched over the river, lighting up the boats below. The festival is a 20-minute walk or short subway ride from Dotonbori, and the riverbanks fill with hundreds of thousands of spectators.
7月24日～25日に大阪天満宮で行われる天神祭は、大阪最大・日本三大祭の一つです。7月25日のフィナーレは圧巻。神輿と装束の随行者による陸渡御の後、100艘以上の船が大川を下る船渡御へと続きます。
日が暮れると、大川上空に約3,000発の花火が打ち上げられ、下を流れる船を照らします。道頓堀から徒歩20分、または地下鉄ですぐの場所で、川岸には数十万人の観客が集まります。

July 25 is the main day — arrive by 16:00 for a riverside spot for the fireworks.

The boat procession is best viewed from Tenjinbashi or Sakuranomiya along the Okawa.
